We rarely check the ingredients of the products we buy at the supermarket, and buy what is most popular, without considering how it might affect our health. But diet has a direct effect on health and well-being.

An unhealthy diet is the window to obesity and chronic heart disease. When planning a healthy diet, there are certain foods that must be avoided at all costs to begin the transition to good health.

Here are the top foods you should never eat


Composed of vegetable oils, margarine contains less saturated fat than butter. For this reason, people consider it a healthy alternative.

But margarine contains high amounts of trans fatty acids (TFAs), or simply trans fats.
TFAs in our diets can contribute to clogged arteries, limiting the flow of oxygen-rich blood to the heart, and thereby causing heart attacks.
Various studies have concluded that trans fats inhibit the activity of a vital protein that regulates cell renewal and strengthens the heart’s immunity to disease.

Processed meat

Harmful preservatives such as nitrates, high amounts of salt and artificial colors are added to processed meat. This includes: ham, sausage, cured meat, canned meat and smoked meat.
Research has shown that eating processed meat contributes to fatal heart disease, cancer and premature death.
People who consume processed meat are at a 44% greater risk of dying prematurely from heart disease and cancer.
Processed meat has a high salt content that increases blood pressure. Preservatives block arteries and raise blood sugar levels.
Other studies have concluded that consuming processed meat increases the risk of diabetes by 19%.

Carbonated drinks

In many countries around the world, carbonated drinks take second place as the preferred drink after water.
Consuming carbonated drinks regularly raises the level of sugar in the blood. Excess sugar is stored as fat, contributing to obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure.
The consumption of carbonated drinks also has a negative effect on bone density.
In addition, daily consumption of carbonated drinks increases the risk of obesity in children.
Daily consumption of 1 to 2 cans of soda increases the risk of developing gout in both men and women.

Artificial sweets

Artificial sweeteners replace natural sugar in many products.

Deep fried foods

Deep-fried foods, such as potatoes, onions, baked chicken and bread, are extremely tasty, but also extremely harmful.
Deep-fried foods require a slow process, allowing the foods to absorb a lot of fat.
Eating these foods regularly increases cholesterol and clogs arteries. This leads to heart problems.
Various studies have shown that frequent consumption of fried food is significantly associated with the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, or coronary artery disease.
In addition, foods rich in carbohydrates, such as potatoes, when fried at high temperatures, produce Acrylamide – a substance that increases the risk of cancer.

Popcorn in the microwave

Microwaveable bagged popcorn is coated with certain chemicals (PFOA) to retain the fats. When these bags are microwaved, the chemicals leach into the popcorn.
A study proves that these chemicals increase the risk of infertility.
Another study found that consumption of PFOA (perfluorooctanoic acid) can cause thyroid disorders. If left untreated, thyroid disorders present the risk of turning into cancer.
Exposure to the chemical PFOA is a major cause of breast, kidney and testicular cancer. These chemicals increase cholesterol levels and, as a result, the risk of chronic heart disease.

Canned food

Bisphenol A (BPA), a compound found in canned foods, causes a host of health problems after consumption.
It interferes with the hormones and genes of the body’s regulatory system, and is linked to problems such as early puberty, obesity and cancer.

White bread is made from white flour. A grain of wheat consists of two parts – the germ and the bran – that contain all the ingredients.
When white flour is produced, the germ and bran are removed from it. Therefore, white flour is stripped of its nutrients, and all that remains is starch.
Starch raises blood sugar levels, increasing the risk of diabetes. Excess blood sugar also carries the risk of being converted to fat and stored in the body. Gradually, this increases the risk of weight gain with all its consequences.

Almost all cultivated soybeans are genetically modified and covered with a herbicide called glyphosate for protection against weeds.
Soybean oil and protein are found in countless food products and are widely consumed. So, the herbicide is consumed along with them.
Exposure to glyphosate sprays in Argentina, used in soybean cultivation, has resulted in a significant increase in pregnancy complications, neurological deformities, miscarriages, birth defects and cancers.
